In 2005 Romfor was the first Western drilling contractor to enter the Kurdish area of Iraq since long before the Gulf War. Despite a very difficult situation Romfor mobilized a drilling rig and began operations ahead of schedule. Romfor was also the first Western drilling contractor to mobilize equipment back and forth between the Kurdish area and Southern Iraq.

Romfor built its operation in Iraq up to 5 drilling rigs and a full service yard by 2013. The company had made great progress in the training and development of local staff. Romfor was well recognized as a pioneer and prominent leader in the development of the oil and gas industry in the Kurdish area of Iraq. In mid 2014 Romfor sold its Iraqi operations to Eurasia Drilling Company.
